Leading providers of expert English Language and English Literature tuition for GCSE & A Level in East London and South-East Essex.
Capstone Academy was borne of a vision to bring high-quality, specialised English Language and Literature Tuition to all.
Our ambition is to help our students to perform at their best, building long-term academic resilience and life-long intellectual curiosity.
Capstone was founded in 2014, when it became clear there was a gap in the market for a specialist English Language and English Literature tuition company, defined by its professionalism, organisation and transparency.
In 2015, the new '9-1' GCSE qualifications launched, leading to ever more confusion about the way the skills required for success could best be taught. Capstone immediately set about performing an in-depth analysis of the exam specifications for each of the major UK examining bodies, producing lessons and resources which are clear to understand, easy to use and which fully and systematically address the key assessment objectives for each exam board.
Since 2014, Capstone's founder and lead tutor, Amy, has coached over 350 pupils to exam success, providing individually tailored lessons and resources, as well as creating an extensive online library of materials, available to Capstone's students and parents, 24/7.
Capstone's founder, Amy Martin, graduated from the University of Leeds in 2002, with a BA (First Class Honours) in English Language & Literature. Her love of all things literary soon led her to pursue a Master's degree in Twentieth-Century Literature.
Amy has worked teaching English Language and Literature across a wide variety of settings for over 15 years, focusing on fostering a lifelong love of learning: she holds the belief that, whilst systematic approaches hold the key to unlocking exam success, students' lives should ultimately be enriched and empowered by their interactions with language and literature.
Amy is currently conducting her PhD study, titled 'Through the Barricades: Representations of Masculinity in British Post-World War II Culture.'
Informal editorial credits include The Nightingales Were Singing (2000), Behold, the Painful Plough (2010), The Victoria Line (2018) & City of Ghosts (2020).
When Amy isn't running the business, she is almost always to be found with a book or a pen in her hand!
